Sometimes a non-threaded chat utility is more useful than a threaded discussion page. However the common chat channels are not able to store past conversations nor can late-comers to the discussion can pick up on what has been discussed.

An alternative to having a page of links being held as a text file it may be easier to maintain a links page over the internet.

The ability to edit and update one's links whilst on the road can be impressive to a potential future client or customer. Offer to swap links, hit the internet with any browser and then add or update the link. No FTP software required.

Another advantage is that people who would like you to link to them can request to do so by going to links page and submitting a proposed link. The administrator of the web site is notified by mail immediately (or if he is on he road then he can check to see if there any new submissions via the Admin pages) and then can accept or deny the request. The advantage for the webmaster is that he doesn't need to think of copy for the new site and the faster that the site is linked then the faster the reciprocal link will be.
