Introduction

Horse racing is a passion of ours; not only because of the pleasure of being at a Downlands course on a warm summer's day or somewhere in the depths of winter watching wonderful horseflesh tackle the obstacles of National Hunt racing. One of the greatest challenges with horse racing is the ongoing problem solving which each race throws up.

About The Site

Most of the site is pure HTML even though almost every page has the .asp suffix. One of the reasons why the site has been written for ASP and hosted on an IIS server is that it makes server side includes for the headings and the contents lists that much easier to handle.

There are three places where ASP is used within the site. These are in the Chat Page and the Links Page. These are discussed on this site (here for the Chat Page and here for the Links page).

Weak Favourites

Introduction

There is one thing trying to work out the winner of a race. But what about the horse which is fancied by one and all in the media but after close examination some doubts start to creep in? The answer is to do what the bookmakers do and to lay the horses to other bettors on the new Betting Exchanges.

About The Site

A considerable amount of ASP work has gone into this site. The list of contributers to the site listed along the top of the page are determined by a small database on the web server. The contributions by those indicating the weak favourites are done via an ASP entry form which is placed into the database and when the page is viewed the contents are then displayed. The site can be viewed at www.weakfavourites.co.uk.

Introduction

More of a traditional web site but this time the subject matter is fine landscape art.

About The Site

A little amount of ASP in there; mostly to provide the server-side includes but there is a fair amount of JavaScript so that that the thumbnails can be expanded and reduced with a single click of the mouse button. The site can be seen at www.aylward-art.com.

Introduction

A web site for a new technical IT consultancy.

About The Site

This site contains a large amount of ASP scripting which enables access to various sections of the site, a search engine and a private members' area. There is a large amount of ASP code beind the registration section which automatically sends notices to the registrant and the client. The site was passed over to the client in November 2004. The site can be seen at www.frontiertechnology.co.uk.
